1. Wat Lamphu, Narathiwat

   – The team assessed the Sky Hydrant installation, which has been providing clean drinking water to approximately 500 households. They gathered feedback from the residents, who highlighted improvements in health and daily life.

2. Meruebo-Ok Mosque, Cho-airong, Narathiwat

   – This community, benefiting around 500-600 households, has relied heavily on the filtration system, especially during the recent severe drought. The team listened to community leaders and residents about the crucial role the water system played during tough times.

3. Wat Thum Khu Ha, Yala

   – Approximately 400 households in this community have seen significant improvements in their daily lives due to the clean water provided by the Sky Hydrant system. The team documented the positive changes and any ongoing needs.

4. Guan Yin Shrine, Yala

   – Serving about 450 households, the water filtration system at this location has been vital during the drought, providing essential water for drinking and religious practices. The team gathered stories of resilience and gratitude from the residents.

Impactful Visit to Meruebo-Ok Mosque, Narathiwat

A Journey of Support and Assessment

Our recent visit to the Meruebo-Ok Mosque community in Cho-airong, Narathiwat, was a significant step in our ongoing mission to provide clean and safe drinking water to communities in need. Disaster Aid Thailand, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Jomtien Pattaya and the Rotary Club of Pattaya Banglamung, aimed to evaluate the impact of the Sky Hydrant water filtration system installed six months prior and to continue our support for the residents.

Community Engagement

Upon our arrival, the warm welcome from the local community was heartening. The Meruebo-Ok Mosque community, which includes two villages with approximately 500-600 households, has greatly benefited from the Sky Hydrant system. The community leaders and residents gathered to share their experiences and the positive changes brought about by the access to clean water.

– Daily Water Consumption Each resident now receives about 2.5-2.8 liters of safe drinking water per day.

Coping with Drought

During the severe drought period from February to May 2024, the community faced extreme challenges. Vegetation withered, and water sources dwindled, making everyday life difficult. The Sky Hydrant system became a lifeline, providing essential drinking and cooking water. This access significantly alleviated the hardships faced by the residents during this critical time

– Sediment Screen Operating at full efficiency, effectively removing larger particles from the water.

– 200-Liter Water Tank Fully functional, ensuring a steady supply of water for filtration.

– Sky Hydrant Water Filter Working at full capacity, delivering safe and clean drinking water.

– 1,000-Liter Drinking Water Tank Also operating efficiently, providing ample storage for filtered water.

The residents expressed immense gratitude for the water filtration system. During our recent mission to Narathiwat, Disaster Aid Thailand, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Jomtien Pattaya and the Rotary Club of Pattaya Banglamung, made a significant visit to the Wat Lamphu community. This visit was aimed at assessing the impact of the Sky Hydrant water filtration system installed six months ago and providing ongoing support to the residents.

– Sky Hydrant Water Filter, Operating at full efficiency, ensuring the water is safe for consumption.

– 1,000-Liter Drinking Water Tank, Also fully operational, providing ample storage for the filtered water.

Observations

One key observation during our visit was that the Sky Hydrant unit was exposed to direct sunlight. To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the system, we advised the community to implement better management practices, such as providing shade or a protective cover to shield the unit from the harsh sunlight.

The residents expressed their gratitude for the installation, highlighting how the clean water supply has alleviated many challenges they previously faced. They shared stories of improved health and the positive impact on their daily lives, emphasizing the importance of this resource in their community.

SkyHydrant at Kuan Im Shrine

12 January 2024, Disaster Aid Thailand, in collaboration with Disaster Aid Australia, has installed the fourth SkyHydrant water filtration unit at the Kuan Im Shrine in Yala. This installation is part of a concerted effort to provide clean drinking water to communities affected by the severe flooding in the region.

Flooding Impact in Yala

Yala has faced extensive damage due to the heaviest rainfall in decades, resulting in widespread flooding. The floods have impacted nine districts including Muang Yala, Bannang Sata, Ra Ngae, Than To, Kalumpong, Betong, Thung Yala, and Bacho. Nearly 6,000 homes have been damaged, leading to significant challenges for residents​.

Floodwaters have submerged roads and homes, especially in low-lying areas, disrupting daily life and making transportation difficult. The Tuebo-Sateng Nok road, for instance, has been reported to be about one meter under water, rendering it impassable for small vehicles.

Relief Efforts at Kuan Im Shrine

The installation of the SkyHydrant unit at Kuan Im Shrine is crucial for providing safe drinking water to the affected communities. This unit can produce up to 10,000 liters of clean water per day, which is essential for preventing waterborne diseases and ensuring the well-being of the residents during the flood recovery process.

Our teams have been working closely with local authorities to ensure that the relief efforts are effectively coordinated.
